"We had a great time with Dave. The portraits being taken in our backyard made it so much more personal. The time we took to prepare for the portraits was worth while and we have wonderful results."

"A Family Story - How One Man's Love for His Family Pulled Him Through a Life Altering Experience With The Help of a Portrait"

A TRUE Story - One That Shows What Photography Can Really Mean

I want to tell you a true story that brought home to me how important family portraits can be to people. Up until this time, I created beautiful photographs for people. They thanked me for the work I did and I went on creating new images for the next family.

A Simple Annual Physical Sent Shivers Through Everyone Who Knew Him...

About five years ago, a neighbor and friend, Steve, went for his annual physical. He was a very strong man, an ex-Marine, and one who enjoyed life and his family. This one year he came home and told his family and friends he needed additional tests done on his heart. The doctors didn't like what they saw and wanted to check further. After a series of tests, it was determined that his heart was failing him and he needed a heart transplant to survive. The damage to his heart was so severe that this forty-three year old man was moved to the "top of the list". His very survival was dependant on the transplant and the situation was so critical that he needed mechanical assistance until a donor could be found. The initial diagnosis was during the winter holidays and a donor was not found until May.

The Hospital Stay Seemed To Go On Forever...

During his six month hospital stay he was in extreme critical condition on many different occasions and his three beautiful children were not often allowed to be with him. We talked with his wife and created a portrait of his three children . The whole purpose of the portrait was to allow him to feel their presence and love even though they could not physically be near. The portrait helped with the depression that so often accompanies these life-altering events. Because his situation was fairly uncommon, the local TV stations came to interview his wife about his condition and his procedure.

Knowing They Were Near Meant So Much...

Whenever the news cameras were talking to his wife, the portrait of his children was proudly displayed near his hospital bed so he could have his children with him at all times. The portrait meant so much to him that he felt like the children were there in the room with him. I am pleased to report that the portrait is now displayed in their home for the whole family to enjoy. I feel so very blessed to have been able to, in a very small way , bring the love of family to someone who was in such desperate need of healing.

This is not the only family portrait that has come to mean so much more than just images on a canvas. There is a story behind every image I have created and will create. I wholeheartedly accept the responsibility of creating a portrait that displays the love and personality of the family.

Life is so terribly short. But, at the same time, life is such a wonderful gift. And the memories we keep of these moments with our family will last forever.
